Now that you’ve hired a team, developing your team should be your next step. If you want your team to be invested in your company’s success, you must ensure that they are well-trained. This can be challenging because in small businesses, the owner often wear many hats.
So, how can you create a well-trained team?
Here are 5 R’s you need to remember when creating a blueprint for your well-trained team – roadmap, roles and responsibilities, rules, resources, and reach.
Roadmap.
Make sure that each team member is aware of the mission, vision, values, and goals of the business. Usually, the team members will view the mission and values on your company website, but one of the ways to consistently share these policies with new hires is with onboarding training. Employees tend to be interested in working for organizations that reflect the same values they have. When everyone is aligned with a company’s vision, it builds loyalty and trust within the organization.
Rules.
You, the business owner, must set expectations. Having a set of rules, behaviors, and cultural guardrails is essential so everyone involved knows how to work together. This will keep the company organized and structured.
Roles and Responsibilities.
Of course, it’s important that each team member knows what his or her responsibilities are and the impact of the role he or she has within the company.
Resources.
Having the right set of tools, access to standard operating procedures, coaching and training will allow your team to be more independent in their roles.
Reach.
This encompasses anything in relation to connecting with people. Building rapport, recognizing each team member’s strengths and accomplishments to make them feel valued, and supporting your team in areas in which they need help. Not only does this promote inclusion, but it also strengthens the relationship among your team.
These are just simple reminders, but this will help you as you create a well-trained team for your business.
