3 Easy Tips to Create a Training Plan
1. Start with the end in mind
Write down what you want the team or team member to know or do after the training is complete.
It is a must that you identify your desired results and think through what your team should know, understand, or what they should be able to do once they complete the training. This knowledge is the foundation of your training plan and is what you will build off of.
Doing this extremely well will help you create clear learning objectives that align directly back to these desired end goals.
Things to consider are problems or deficits within the organization, changes, opportunities, strengths, mandated training, new directions as a result of COVID.
2. Know who you’re training
You will end up teaching the right people the wrong skills, teaching the right skills to the wrong people or teaching the right skills the wrong way.
You need to know lots of information about those you will be training. For example, what do they already know how to do, do they have any language barriers, do they have any learning barriers, are they visual learner, auditory learner or tactile learner. These are just a few questions but you’ve gotta know your people.
It’s just like dating. Take time to get to know as much as you can about your team up front and it will make your job easier because you’re not force feeding them a one size fits all training program.
3. Determine how you will deliver
Depending on your team size some delivery formats are more suitable than others. There’s instructor-led training, there’s virtual instructor-led training, there’s eLearning, and there’s blended learning in which you can combine a little bit of both.
Take a long look in the mirror and ask yourself, Are my people doing their jobs effectively despite training that’s already in place? And Do my people REALLY know how to do their jobs?
Because no matter who you are, what business you have, how many online courses you have, how influential you are, the challenges will arise in your business.
And the difference between the business owners who make it and the business owners who don’t is that the business owners who make it are ready and equipped with the tools, resources, and effective online training strategies to solve the challenge.
